The fantastic Kinuta park in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo is a great place to roll out the blue tarp and enjoy your Hanami party with friends or family.   The park was originally a large green space that was decided as an urban planning project to commemorate the 2600th anniversary of the Japanese Empire in 1940, the year before the Pacific War.

The park is known for its cherry blossom viewing in spring and has about 930 Someiyoshino and Satozakura cherry trees planted throughout the park, but the most attractive feature of the park is the Family Section, where many large Someiyoshino trees are planted on a gently undulating lawn square.

The open and overwhelmingly picturesque scenery is the perfect environment for a picnic with the family.

Someiyoshino cherry trees are often cut off at the lower branches, but here there are large someiyoshino with their branches spreading down to the ground, making their sprawling appearance even more magnificent.

The park is also home to the Setagaya Art Museum and a French restaurant, so there are many ways to enjoy the park.
