The Myohoji Temple is located in Horinouchi, Suginami-ku, Tokyo, and is officially known as Nichiren Shu’s head temple, Yakuyakuyakuyoke Soshi Horinouchi Myohoji Temple, which has been called “Horinouchi no Osotsusama” since the Edo period (1603-1868), and is known for its ability to ward off bad luck.
The temple is dedicated to Nichiren Shonin.
Myohoji temple is also known for its divine virtues, such as protection from bad luck, protection from bad direction, protection from all directions, protection from misfortune, academic achievement, and healing of eye diseases.
On the occasion of the first visit to the temple, a New Year’s celebration is held for three days on the third day of the New Year. The temple bell-ringing ceremony is open to everyone.
About 30,000 worshippers are said to visit the temple.
The temple is about a 13-minute walk from Tokyo Metro Shin-Koenji Station, and about a 25-minute walk from JR Koenji Station. There are about 150 parking spaces available.
